Upgrade Your Math Skills

Northland’s math lessons help students review and upgrade their skills in preparation for the GED exam, credit programs or re-entry to the workforce. Each student starts by defining their unique goals. They then complete a math assessment, which determines the starting point for their learning path. The curriculum is then tailored to the student’s needs and is designed to help them achieve their personal goals.

Our classrooms are small and we strive to cater to the individual needs of each student. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace and assistance from teachers is always available. Our math program covers a broad range of topics from basic addition and subtraction through percents, ratios, algebra, geometry and statistics. Additional support can be given to students who are preparing for apprenticeship programs, need a “math tune up” for re-entry to college or have other specific goals.

English Upgrading

The English program at Northland Adult Learning Centre helps students review and upgrade their reading and writing skills in order to prepare for a credit program or to re-enter the workforce.

The program consists of daily practise in spelling, vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing. Each student is assessed and is fitted with a personally designed program to suit their individual needs and goals.

Independent learning is encouraged but one on one assistance is always available. A wide variety of resource and computer programs are utilized in each learners daily activities.
